DAY 1 Durban / Rorke’ s Drift
On arrival at Durban airport collect your car and drive to your lodge, a Natural Heritage Site, which overlooks both Isandlwana and Rorke’ s Drift. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool before joining a late afternoon guided walk through the reserve to see the graves of Lieutenants Melvill and Coghill, the first posthumous recipients of the Victoria Cross.
DAY 2 Rorke’ s Drift
You have the option of joining either a morning guided tour at Isandlwana or an afternoon tour at Rorke’ s Drift. Both transport you back to 1900 with charismatic storytelling of the tragic battles between the Zulus and the British, bringing this dramatic period of history to life.
DAY 3 Rorke’ s Drift / Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park
Early morning departure for a journey of expansive landscapes and fascinating cultural insights into the lives, influence and history of the Zulu nation. Stopping off points along the way include the Mgungundlovu, eMakhosini Opathe Heritage Park at Ulundi and the KwaZulu Cultural Museum at Ondini. Continue on to the flagship Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve where you can look forward to hopefully seeing a variety of epic wildlife.
DAY 4 Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park
Early morning meeting with your game ranger as you traverse the acclaimed Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve for three hours in an open safari vehicle. As well as tracking the Big Five, keep your eyes peeled for other animals such as zebra, giraffe and, with luck, cheetah and wild dog. Learn also about the amazing ecosystems and be enthralled by the incredible natural scenery. After time to relax back at the lodge, you will then have an additional late afternoon game drive so be sure to keep your camera at the ready!
DAY 5 Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park / Umhlanga
After a morning game drive, depart for Umhlanga, an upmarket resort lying just ten miles north of Durban. Your hotel is ideally placed for relaxing on the gorgeous golden beaches and exploring the plentiful local attractions.
DAY 6 Umhlanga / Durban
At leisure before you return your car at Durban airport where your tour ends. Alternatively, why not extend your stay at the beach for a few extra nights?
