Advise one, two or more publications?
Apples or oranges. Baseball
or soccer. Yearbook or newspaper
advising.
A popular topic of discussion
on the JEA website lately has
been that of teachers choosing to
advise more than one publication.
Many advisers weighed in on the
advantages and disadvantages
of immersing themselves in the
world of publishing their students’ homework.
In the beginning, when some
of us of a certain age began our
teaching careers, most of us were
hired to be both newspaper and
yearbook advisers. Unless the
school was very large, there was
only one journalism teacher.
Some even became advisers of the
literary magazine and broadcast
