Vital Statistics Agency has partnered with the
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Service
Canada, and Health Insurance B.C. to provide
the parents of newborn children a quick and
secure way to register for:
Canada Child Benefits (CCB)
Social Insurance Number (SIN)
Medical Services Plan for BC Residents
(MSP)
Take Note ! Application for these services through
Vital Statistics is only available when you are regis-
tering the birth of your child who is under the age of
one. Each program has its own eligibility
requirements.

After the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
receives the information from the birth registration, your child will be registered for:
The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) and any related provincial or territorial
programs.
The Goods and Services Tax(GST) credit and any related provincial programs.

Take Note! Once a parent fills out the birth registration form, they must not re-apply for
Canada Child Benefits. Re-applying may result in a delay in processing the first application or
issuing payments.
