Our Opening Night keynote speaker brings a wealth of experience working as a volunteer and managing volunteers . His presentation promises to underline one of our main themes for the Event Safety Conference : ensuring that your volunteers are motivated , active , well managed and a fundamental part of your success .
Using the metaphor of building a cathedral in the 1400s , Rick will challenge us to see beyond tomorrow and position our actions for long-term benefits . The evening ’ s presentation will profile how to make sure volunteers share in the end goals and ambitions of your event , project or activity . However modest or significant the volunteers ’ role , it is a crucial one .
Rick ’ s many senior volunteer activities anchored his fulltime career as President & CEO of Tourism Vancouver , an international award winning , 1,000-member organization widely recognized as a global leader in destination marketing and management . Under his leadership , Tourism Vancouver played a vital role in shaping Vancouver and Canada ’ s future including initiation of the Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Taskforce , launching of the 2010 Olympic Games Bid , creating Dine Out Vancouver , and more . Volunteers played an active part , sometimes a leadership role , in each of their successes .
