From Creation to Noah: Midrash
Instructor: Allen Cohen This course is based on Louis Ginzberg’ s book, Legends of the Bible and additional Midrashim from various other sources. It will cover the first nine chapters of Genesis starting with the creation of the heavens and earth, the various creatures( in detail) and Adam. In this course we will discuss Adam’ s wives, the fall of Satan and the end of Paradise for man. Also included in this class, will be the stories of Cain and Abel, the punishment of Cain, and the descendants of Cain and Seth including Enosh, Enoch, and Methuselah. We will cover the stories of the generation of the deluge and the fall of the Nephilim. And we will discuss the Book of Raziel and Noah’ s Ark, and finally the story of King Nimrod and the story of the Tower of Babel. Ancient Judaism’ s Relevance in the 21st Century

Intermediate Hebrew via Skype( ongoing)

This class is for intermediate Hebrew students with some knowledge who are interested in further developing their skills. Cook Like Your Bubbe
The great thing about Bubbe was that she never needed a recipe! In this series of 4 classes, students will learn a practical approach to thinking and cooking like a chef( or a Bubbe). We will use functionally sustainable ingredients with an emphasis on creating meals without needing a recipe. Classes will include instruction on basic techniques and methods, sauces, and creating your own recipes. OPTIONAL: Interested students may opt to purchase a Farm to Family“ Grab and Go” box to be delivered each week to Kitchen Thyme for the discounted price of $ 25 for the 4 weeks of the class. History of Jewish Music with Klezm Or’ ami’ m
Enjoy an afternoon of music and learning with“ Jewish Songwriters, American Songs, 1910-1965”. The program is inspired by David Lehman’ s book, A Fine Romance. For additional enrichment you can read the book in advance of attending this event. A portion of the funds collected will be donated to the Congregation Or Ami music fund. Tea in the Sukkah
Join us for a Sukkot celebration as we dine on delicious desserts in our very own Sukkah located on the Weinstein JCC’ s Neil November Plaza. We will share in hearing the story of Sukkot, singing holiday songs and having lots of fun with our very special guest, Cantor Helfman. All seniors are welcome. You are invited to bring your lunch at 12 noon and socialize with other active seniors inside the Weinstein JCC as well. Low-cost transportation available.
