The Community Chanukah Celebration is the closing event of The Fife-Davis Family Annual Jewish Book Fair and Gift Shop, which runs November 6 – 17. We are proud to continue our commitment to supporting Jewish books and authors and offer a rich selection of Judaic art and gifts. Past authors have included Rabbi Harold Kushner, Francesca Segal, and many others! Keep an eye out for another great author series and wonderful book and gift selection in 2013.

Defiant Requiem
Defiant Requiem is a feature-length documentary film which illuminates the extraordinary, untold story of the brave acts of resistance by the Jewish prisoners at Terezín during World War II. Murry Sidlin, Maestro / Conductor / Music Director is the creator / conductor of the Defiant Requiem, the Live Performance which was the inspiration and genesis for this film. He has conducted 17 performances of Defiant Requiem live in such cities as Jerusalem, Budapest, and Washington D. C. Over the next musical season he will perform this concert / drama in Baltimore, New York’ s Lincoln Center and in Prague. He is an internationally recognized conductor, teacher, lecturer and is the Founder and President of the Defiant Requiem Foundation. October 24 7:00 p. m. The Fife-Davis Family Annual Jewish Book Fair and Gift Shop Kick-Off Event
Join us for a memorable evening with Stephen Tobolowsky, a leading character actor in film today, as well as a talented storyteller and writer. Appearing in over 200 movies and television shows, he is best known for playing Ned Ryerson in Groundhog Day, Sammy Jankis in Memento, Werner Brandes in Sneakers, Happy Chapman in Garfield, and Mr. Bates in Freaky Friday. On television, he played Tor Ekland on Seinfeld, Hugo Jarry on Deadwood, Bob Bishop on Heroes, Sandy Ryerson on Glee, Stu Beggs on Californication, and Dr. Shulman on The Mindy Project. His first book of stories, The Dangerous Animals Club is creative mitzvah, a work of art, and a narrative feat that combines biography and essay, ranging from the hilarious to the introspective. Sara D. November Art Gallery Opening with Live Jazz
“ Circles Within Circles: Jewish Time Frames” features photography by Lloyd Wolf and Poetry by Sherri Waas Shufenthal. Come enjoy this innovative and beautifully thoughtful body of work that explores aspects of time as understood and expressed in Judaism. Ms. Shufenthal will read some selections from the exhibit. Lloyd Wolf is an award-winning photographer with work collected in the Corcoran Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, the Museum of Jewish Heritage, American University of Cairo, and numerous other institutions. His work has been exhibited in over 100 national and international exhibitions. Sherri Waas Shufenthal is a poet, speaker, and speech therapist. She has written several books including Sacred Voices: The Women of Genesis Speak and Journey into Healing. Opening reception with Lloyd Wolf and Sherri Waas Shufenthal Live Jazz performed by The Bob Blagg Trio October 17 7:00 p. m.
