A Day On The Farm

Ages 12 yrs To Adult
Do you have a love for horses or any farm animals ? This one day course will put you into the thick of farming and hands on experience with live horses and their composting goods . You will learn about pasture management , composting , basic equine health , care , nutrition , riding and much more . You will receive an individual “ Farm Package ” filled with items needed throughout the day and to take home . This full 8 hour day will keep you busy , interested and informed of the environmentally friendly way to farm .
Registrants must bring lunch , water , appropriate clothing , boots , helmet ( some are available to borrow ). Waiver forms will be required to be signed by each participant or parents of under the age of 18 at the start of the day .

Carving for Kids

Ages 9-12 years
The purpose of this course is to teach kids how to safely use a pocketknife to produce simply whittled projects out of commonly available materials for their own enjoyment . Over the three classes students will make a decorative and useful wooden pen , rubber band shooter ( environmentally sensitive insect control system ), boomerang , a sturdy and functional walking stick and learn to sharpen . Beginning with demonstration and instruction , then hands on making of projects with assistance from the instructor . All materials and tools needed for the course are provided at no extra cost . Sharpening

Learn to sharpen knives , chisels etc . This is a hands on session where everyone will make a knife or chisel truly razor sharp . Participants will need to bring at least one knife to practice on . This knife should NOT be long and flexible . This course is designed for cooks , hunters , woodworkers and anyone who wants a REALLY sharp knife or wood working tool . ( Saws will not be covered .)
Bring at least one knife and other items for sharpening along with any sharpening equipment that you have or may want to learn to use . Sharpening equipment will be available for purchase .

Intro to Wood Carving

The purpose of this course is to turn people on to the life hobby of woodcarving . This will be done by introducing them first to whittling , then later to other forms of carving through demonstration , instruction and hands on practice . Help and instruction is provided in safety , tool selection , materials procurement and sharpening .
You will learn to use a knife and other basic tools to carve a simple human face . Some may make a wood spirit walking stick using the same procedures . Some others may carve a wooden spoon or cup out of green wood . Those with some experience , can learn to do caricatures with more involved features , or work on doing eyes , ears , teeth , hair etc .
Tools and materials needed for the course are provided at no extra charge . Extra materials may be purchased . Magazines , books , catalogues will be displayed . Knives , sharpening supplies , etc . will be available for purchase .

Natural Soap Making

Getting back to basics and natural ingredients is not just a trend but a lifestyle . Not only should you know and care what you put into your body , but also what you put onto it . Soap making involves an exact combination of oils ( Coconut , Palm & Olive ) blended with lye producing a beautiful natural soap without unnecessary ingredients .
This 2 evening course will teach you everything you need to know to make your own luxurious soap creations using the cold process method . Proper handling of lye and all the safety precautions are covered . While the soap making portion is a demonstration , participants will partner up and customize their bars with provided scents , botanicals and extras .
All supplies included , each participant will take home 10 bars of soap and the skills to make soap using the Cold Process Method . Second night is when we cut the soap into bars and you learn about curing , handling and packaging for gift ideas .
