Moose are the biggest of the deer family to live in Colorado. They live along streams in the mountains. Males have broad antlers and can weigh 1,200 pounds. Around 1,000 moose live in Colorado.
Colorado has more elk than any other state. More than 190,000 elk live here. Elk are found from the foothills to the mountains. Male elk have antlers that can grow five feet wide. In the fall you can hear them bugle.
Pronghorn, also called antelope, is the fastest mammal in North America. They can reach speeds of 50 miles per hour. Pronghorns outrun their enemies. They have reddish brown coats with white bellies, rumps and chins. They have horns. Over 60,000 live in Colorado.
There are two types of deer that live in Colorado. Mule deer have large ears and a black tail. Whitetailed deer have shorter ears with a white tail and rump. Over half a million deer live in Colorado.
