MIGRATION
Migration is the term for animals moving to a
different place with a change in the season.
The Swainson's hawk
flies over 14,000 miles
round trip
between Colorado
and Argentina.
The Rocky Mountain
bighorn sheep live
high in the mountains
during the
warmer summer
months and migrate to the lower mountain
areas in the winter.
Look at the map and locate Colorado. Now try
to locate the migration paths of several animals
that spend time in Colorado during a year. You
may want to refer to an atlas (a book of maps)
to help you find the named countries.
• Swainson’s hawk flies between Colorado and Argentina.
Î Monarch butterflies migrate between Colorado and southern Mexico.
• Burrowing owls are found in Colorado in the summer and Mexico in the winter.
• Bald eagles are seen in Colorado during the winter and Canada and Alaska in the summer.
