French Cinema
The movie is an element so important to the culture of France, that it is a subject at school and since the 1990s it can be taken as a final exam. In answer to the insistence of France, Europe united to create the French Meia program in 1987, Eurimages program in 1988, which supports co-productions and then CinemaEuropa and Médiasalles programs that protect cinemas, small retailers, and French trade. Considering itself the father of film and cinema, France decided it needed a festival, leading its worldwide fame, and so it launched the Cannes Film Festival. According to the sources, the Cannes Film Festival was established in response to the competition at Venice, which was oriented towards fascism. The Cannes film festival is to the film industry what the Tour de France is to cycling: a prestigious event that offers a blend of tradition, history, professionalism and business. It takes place every year in Cannes resort in southern France – a region which conjures up charm, cinema and celebrity support.
