Cinema was born in France, in 1895, thanks to the Lumiére brothers, Auguste and Louis. On December 28, 1895, Louis Lumiére (1894-1948) held the first public projection, Grand Café, in Paris. He did not approximate well the effect of his invention on the public – he thought it was only momentary enthusiasm. His artistic works consisted of only a few short films, maximum 13, by means of which he tested the capabilities of his new invention: the device registered, designed and developed. The Lumiére brothers were rather documentary – filming in the street or people out of the factory, travel documentation. However, these films have marked one of the directions of shooting: from recording a researcher of reality, and with sending cameramen into the wide world, was born one of film genres present today: the live broadcast, the news. After 1907, the biggest movie studio in the world was found in France, together with the largest cinema house construction. Until World War I France was the most important manufacturer and exporter of films in the world. French film production (and, of course, European) elvolved with time, like the sound film, color film in early 1950s, then the TV and, finally, color TV in 1976. These achievements made France set up their own national award, César site, which is awarded in the same category as the Oscar awards.
