A couple of years ago our school opened classes educating students in the field of theory and practice of film making. The aim of the lessons involving the history of film is to prepare students to discuss in a competent way and express their opinion about a film and the development of cinematography; also, how to use the knowledge in practice. Young people are taught how to analyse a film treated as an interdisciplinary work.
Students get acquainted with the process of film production, distribution and reception. They learn to plan and prepare amateur films and develop the ability to use the media. Students learn about different techniques: limbo, match-cut, point of view, split-screen, and they use this knowledge to do their own films. Exceptionally valuable for students who are patient and interested in montage are lessons teaching different methods: parallel montage, intellectual installation etc.
They also get acquainted with the genesis of implementing colour in film and deal with the issues related to sound and film music (diageza, post- synchron, dubbing, voiceover).
While preparing their own films, students learn how to work in a team, passing from creating an idea of the scenario to a complete screenplay.
Students also learn how to write a film review and create a commercial. Using journalistic techniques they make interviews and questionnaires.
As to theoretical issues, young people meet the history of film genres such as drama, western, war film, musical or comedy with the use of the Internet, video and cinema.
Preparing different kinds of projects students mostly work in teams, which helps to develop their abilities to communicate, cooperate, and organize their work in the most efficient way.
