Elementary and secondary education
Fit for the Future Referendum update
Jim Skelly, director of communication and public relations, and Kay Villella, assistant director of communication and public relations, provided a summary report of communication activities for the Fit for the Future referendum. The presentation provided activity and data in relation to communications goals endorsed by the School Board that included encouraging participation in the election by voters in all communities, developing a strong understanding of ballot questions, ensuring accurate information was shared, ensuring district staff were aware and informed, and that the district met all legal requirements of holding a referendum election.
College Reading English 10
Jeff McGonigal, associate superintendent for secondary schools, and Kim Pavlovich, director of secondary curriculum, instruction and assessment, presented a new elective course designed to improve student performance on college entrance ACT tests and MCA tests. The course is currently offered at Anoka High School with demonstrated success and would expand as an elective at all district schools. The course will return for School Board approval at a future meeting.
Finance
City of Coon Rapids TIF district extension
The School Board voted to extend a tax increment financing( TIF) district in the city of Coon Rapids for an additional five years at the request of the city. This action, approved on a unanimous vote, will allow for additional long-term redevelopment and tax base growth, and will allow for the TIF district to remain active through 2038.
