Community Education Canvas School Board election Heather Peters, communications coordinator for Community Education, joined Cindy Reichert, Anoka County elections manager, in submitting a resolution to approve the results for the Nov. 3 School Board election. Tom Heidemann, district one and Marci Anderson, district two ran unopposed and were elected to office. Nicole Hayes defeated Scott Simmons in district five. Heidemann, Anderson and Hayes are elected to four-year terms. Approval of Legislative Platform Superintendent David Law presented a platform for legislative communication that has been under development for the upcoming session. The platform includes both funding requests and structural changes in formulas to improve service to students. Because nearly $30 million of the general fund is necessary to operate state mandated special education programs, the district is advocating for a formula change that would generate 20 percent of the revenue necessary to operate. Complete minutes Complete minutes of the meeting are published on the district’s website at: www.anoka.k12.mn.us/ schoolboard and in the school district’s legal newspapers: • Anoka County Union • Blaine Life • Coon Rapids Herald • Champlin Dayton A second item on the agenda requests tax relief directly to property owners through equalization of taxing formulas. Following a session where the district requested a 3 percent increase but received a 2 percent increase in basic education revenue, Anoka-Hennepin will advocate for a 1 percent increase this session. Anoka-Hennepin is also working to find a solution to provide more permanent funding for a compensatory grant program the district receives that is up for legislative review every two years. Similar to the other items on the legislative agenda, the program under consideration is structured to benefit Anoka-Hennepin students and those from districts across Minnesota.
