Students in Anoka-Hennepin schools have access to high quality choral, band and orchestra programming at the secondary level and strong foundational programs at the elementary level. Andover High School Andover High School (AndHS) Principal Becky Brodeur introduced students for School Board recognition for academic achievement and success in student leadership. AndHS mathematics teacher Matthew Henderson has been named a finalist in the Presidential Award for Excel- lence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. He is one of four teachers in Minnesota to be nominated for the recognition, which is considered the highest level of national recognition for teachers of math or science in the nation. A total of 87 AndHS students were awarded as AP scholars in relation to their performance on college level Ad- vanced Placement (AP) coursework during the 2016-17 school year. Students recognized as AP Scholars, earn- ing a score of 3 or more on three AP tests are: juniors Lucy Anderson, Josie Berg, Beth Defoe, Zachary Lovdahl, Yeying Shi, and Jeremy Whalen and seniors Josie Berg, Marcie Chock, Evan Engquist, Jackson Fletcher, Dane Hall, Allison Jenkins, Anna Johnson, Sierra Jones, Matthew Kemp, Kelsie Kroll, William Kron, Maxwell Lindstrom, Rebekah Polverrari, Molly Posten, Samuel Revier, Elizabeth Rodman, Logan Rohloff, and Carter Weinzier. Another 23 students completed four or more exams with an average score of 3.25 and were named AP Scholars with Honor, students honored at the meeting include seniors Marianna Arocho, Brian Berthiaume, Emily Cox, Reed Downs, Sarah Ganion, Noel Geiger, Frank Gillispie, Jessica Lynse, Blake Matti, Anne Omar, Claire Peter- son, Andrew Probst, Greta Wiederhold, Tyler Wilson and Jian Zheng along with juniors Ryan Mich, and Issac Myos. In addition, 18 AndHS students were recognized for earning AP Scholar with Distinction honors, earning an average score of 3.5 on all exams and a score of 3 or more on five exams. Students recognized include Thomas Breuckmam, Riley Fletcher, Jack Law, Conor McKenna, Nathan Rasmussen, and Andy Zheng Broduer also noted that graduated seniors William Claire, Elizabeth Defoe, and Ben Johnson received the Na- tional AP Scholar designation, reserved for students with an average score above 4.0 on eight or more tests. In total, AndHS students took 685 AP exams last year, an all-time high for the school. 1
