who collected second-place honors and freshman Megan Beuthien who was honored with a third-place ribbon. CRHS juniors Hein Nguyen and Michael Biszko competed in the screen-printing multi-color mirror category with Nguyen finishing with a first-place ribbon and Biszko a third-place ribbon. CRHS industrial technology teacher Steve Sandeen was also recognized for his work in guiding these students in their efforts.
Annette Ziegler, CRHS principal, also presented senior Kenneth Truong for recognition for his selection as a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist.
Governor Dayton Certificate of Commendation
Brian Duffy, band director at CRHS and Steve Lyons, band director at Champlin Park High School presented a certificate of commendation from Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton to Anoka-Hennepin schools for being named a Best Community for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchandisers Foundation( NAMM). This designation acknowledges schools and districts across the United States for their commitment to and support of music education.

Community and government relations
MSBA resolution to adopt the Anoka-Hennepin legislative platform
Steve Kerr, executive director of government and community relations, presented a platform regarding priorities for the Anoka-Hennepin School District in the upcoming 2017 legislative session. The platform provides clear communication regarding priorities. The board endorsed a plan that calls for prioritizing basic education funding first through increased investment or reductions in the special education cross-subsidy. The second priority seeks a permanent correction to a temporary patch that the legislature has utilized for several years. The action supports legislation introduced in 2016 that solves this issue for Anoka-Hennepin and other districts in this situation. The School Board supported the legislative platform on a unanimous vote.
MSBA resolution supporting tax equity
Steve Kerr, executive director of government and community relations, presented a resolution under development by the Minnesota School Boards Association. This resolution urges the legislature to adjust formulas to address inequities among taxpayers from one district to another. The School Board supported the resolution on a unanimous vote.
Seeking authority to ensure the Anoka-Hennepin legislative platform is represented in the MSBA platform
The School Board supported a motion to provide authority to staff to share the district’ s legislative platform with the Minnesota School Board Association for consideration as part of their legislative platform. The action was approved on a unanimous vote.
General counsel
Approve master agreement for community school coordinators
Paul Cady, general counsel, presented an agreement regarding terms and conditions of employment for community school coordinators from July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2018. The contract is within budget parameters and was approved by the School Board on a unanimous vote.
Finance
Preliminary tax certification for taxes payable 2017
Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer, presented a preliminary tax levy for taxes payable 2017, which is funding available in the 2017-18 school year. The approved maximums will be used to generate truth-in-taxation statements mailed to property owners in November in advance of the annual hearing and levy adoption set for Monday, Dec. 12, at 6 p. m. The levy cannot be increased by the board but can be reduced.
