ACTION OF MEETING RECAP I Board Chair Tom Heidemann Vice Chair Marci Anderson THE SCHOOL BOARD ISSUE 15, VOL. 09 Treasurer Bill Harvey Clerk Jeff Simon I Director William Fields 09/26/16 Director Nicole Hayes Communications, delegations and petitions Minnesota adapted bowling state tournament Anoka-Hennepin students were recognized for outstanding finishes in the Minnesota adapted bowling state tournament held in May at the Brunswick Zone in Brooklyn Park. Peter Bassett, eighth-grade and now attending Anoka High School, was recognized for a second place finish. Andover High School sophomore Alby Zmuda received recognition for her third-place finish. The School Board extended appreciation and recognition to advisors Jody Wahl, Moriah Weir and Sue Opat. Blaine High School Jason Paske, interim principal at Blaine High School (BHS), and teacher Holly Boisjolie, introduced eleven students — all sophomores — with top finishes at the Internet, Science and Technology Fair (ISTF) held at the University of Central Florida in June. ISTF provides students with information technology tools to discover and explore the future of science and engineering while developing science inquiry, communication, information management and presentation skills. BHS students Falagbenne “Mike” Kombate, Evan Ward, and Kristina Zacrep were recognized at the Meritorious Achievement level. Honorable mention awards were recognized for Abi Chiaokhiao, Annelies Bosley, Chloe Champagne, Ethan Zmuda, Emmual Mensah, Madeline Konen, Lucas Becker and Sadhika Prabhu. School Board recognition was also extended to BHS sophomores Reese Kneeland and Alexander Xayasounethone who collected top finishes in the STEM FUSE “Got Game” Video Game Design Competition. The contest is open to high school students across the nation and it honors top achievement in the creation of video games. Kneeland’s entry “Extreme Type Racer” was named top entry, and Xayasounethone’s entry, “USB Ninja,” collected third-place honors. Coon Rapids High School The School Board recognized 11 Coon Rapids High School (CRHS) industrial technology students for placing first, second, or third in competition held at the Minnesota State Fair. CRHS junior Dylan Bangert collected a second-place finish in the woodworking category and a $300 scholarship from the Minnesota Technology and Engineering Educators Association for a wood desk he created from recycled pallets. Senior Anak Shar took second in the photography division joining juniors Trent Bosak and Josh Wieland who were awarded first-, and Evan Mayer whose work was honored with second- and third-place ribbons. Bosak was also named a sweepstakes winner, a “best in tech ed” designation. Sophomores Marissa Loya and Cassie Ramos were awarded first place in photography and were joined by classmate Rachel Bisset 1
