Recognitions Music program earns national recognition Jesse Holden, music teacher at Northdale Middle School, along with Mark Bobnick with Schmitt Music, presented Anoka- Hennepin School Board members with the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation’s 2019 Best Communities for Music Education Award. The district was honored for its dedication to music education for students in kindergarten through grade 12. This is the sixth consecutive year Anoka-Hennepin has received this national recognition. Academic, fine arts and activity accomplishments at Andover High School Andover High School Principal Becky Brodeur presented several student awards in the areas of academics, fine arts and activities. The following students placed in the state fair art competition: Peyton Egan, Elisebeth Tammi, John Strasser, Ruth Hoban, Chase Baker, Aidan McKeefrey, Rebekah Swartz, Jordan Englund, Ruth Hoban, Sopheea Rootes, Jackson Hinshaw, and Fabien Flores Morales. Student Kaitlyn Callahan received Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role by Spotlight Education, a program of the Hennepin Theatre Trust. She also earned Minnesota’s Theatre Scholar of Distinction. The following students earned high ratings through the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) art competition: Isabelle Geiss, Max Brudrud, Halle Hammer, and Paige Davidson. The following students were champions of the first-ever boys volleyball competition: Calvin Foy, Tom Kelly, Charles Fenton, Isaiah Hans, Damian Yang, Nicholas Feine, and Jai Vue. The following students were named Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars: John Babineau, Hanna Babyna, Peyton Bender, Samuel Bock, Madeline Brurud, Maxwell Bryson, Kaitlyn Callahan, Lum Chi, Anna Claire, Robert Downs, Aaron Ganion, Kennedy Gohman, Mary Hernandez, Sierra Hinkel, Ethan Kalmes, Nicholas Larson, Patrick Mullen, Hayley Nelson, Amanda Pelkey, Eli Schrubbe, Thomas Skrzek, and Cade Williams. The following students were named AP Scholars with Honor: Grace Anderson, Isabelle Bodin, Bih Chi, Riley Colston, Zach Cullen, Katelyn Daggett, Elizabeth Donner, Lillian Eklund, Abigail Galvin, Alana Gleaves, Caden Hartle, Oliver McVay, Brady Nordin, Brenna Russell, Brenna Russell, Samuel Schlotfeldt, and Brenden Troiden. The following students were named AP Scholars with Distinction: Alexander Douglas, Ethan Myos, Cassandra Norbeck, Nicholas Preuss, Anne Salmi, and Bek Allenson. Bek Allenson was also recognized as a Commended Student in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.
