2016-17 insurance rates
Jim Gilligan, director of labor relations and benefits, explained factors involved with setting employee insurance
rates and benefit programs for the 2016-17 budget year. Gilligan highlighted the addition of a low deductible
insurance option for employees and proposed the continuation of health savings accounts for high deductible
plan subscribers as a way to control costs. The majority of plan participants will experience rate increases ranging from 6.28 percent to 8.26 percent for the year. Premiums for dental insurance were recommended for no
increase. The recommendation was approved on a unanimous vote.
