Using Water Wisely Poster Contest, a statewide contest for students sponsored by the Minnesota Department of
Health, American Water Works Association, H20 for Life, Elkay and Xcel Energy. The contest encourages protection of resources while encouraging youth involvement in promoting responsible water use and conservation.
Anoka High School
Gwen Poore, Anoka High School activities director, and John Jacobson, AHS swimming coach, presented senior
swimmers Hannah Hoekman and Lucas Manke, who were recognized as Scholastic All-Americans by USA Swimming. The distinction recognizes a combination of achievement in the classroom and excellence in the pool for
athletes that meet the demanding standards.
Secondary Technical Education Program
Jes Lipa, director of the Secondary Technical Education Program (STEP), introduced students who demonstrated
high performance in the SkillsUSA competition. Faith Stalboerger won the first place gold medal in the nursing
assisting category. Second place silver medals were awarded to Kyra Green (esthetics), Eric Mortenson (criminal
justice) and Madison Brenk (nursing assisting). Third place bronze awards were presented to Hunter Aguilar (automotive service technology), Cole Johnston (mechanical safety), Alexander Krause (welding fabrication), Adam
Meyers (welding fabrication) and Josh McGreal (welding fabrication).
Champlin Park High School
Mike George, Champlin Park High School (CPHS) principal, introduced award-winning students and staff for
School Board recognition. CPHS yearbook advisor Liz Keeling was recognized for their selection as a top yearbook through a national review process coordinated by Jostens. Excellence in music performance was recognized as students Natalia Johnson, Amanda Mastrian and Grace Wojciechowski were honored for their selection
to All State Band. Five choir students were selected for the American Choral Director’s Association All State
Honors Choir including Madeline Ferraro, Bronwyn Lundell, Jackson Prothero, Safiya Simplson and Johannah
Woodley. Lanja Amdriamihaja, Drew Hoek, Nicholas Lulloff, Lydia MacDonald, Alec Rohweder and Grace Wilson
were invited to join the Minnesota All State Choir.
There is no argument regarding the success of the CPHS Debate Team who qualified for the state tournament.
Team member Deborah Nyakaru collected national debate team honors and Calvin McMahon was selected for
all state status. Milki Gemeda, Maame Opare-Ado, Ben Summers, and Andre Hardy were valuable members of
the team that advanced to state level competition.
Members of the state qualifying CPHS speech team were recognized for their accomplishments. Team members
include Hannah Lambert, Priscilla Samey, Deborah Nyakaru, Raajii Daniel, Farhin Sayeed and Calvin McMahon,
who was also named to the national speech team.
Academic awards were presented to students with outstanding performance on college preparatory advanced
placement courses. Joseph Cesare, Adam Koch and Austin Schleusner were named AP Scholars of Distinction.
Mitchell Ashburn, Jacob Coenen, Naomi Giesen, Jenna Hovind, Kieran Lieberg, and Grant Udstrand were honored as AP Scholar with Honors recipients. Isaac Aeshliman, Eze Amajuoyi, Blake Auer, Tim Bui, Mathew Corneil,
Hanna Crymble, Alyssa Freeman, Brendan Rearon, Kaitlyn Stokes, Michael Volk, and Catherine Wensel received
the AP school designation. Jacob Coenen has advanced through the rigorous National Merit Scholarship competition to be named a finalist. Joseph Cesare, Sydney Newman and Samantha Cummings were honored for
receiving the National Honor Society Scholarship for their dedication to the four pillars of the program which are
scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Devin Zaloski received recognition for this third place finish in
an international science competition in Europe.
Members of the state champion CPHS Nordic Track Ski Team were honored. Team members include Ian Ivens,
Luke Crandall, Drew Carlson, Matt Omann, Peter Scheller, Michael Urvig, and Connor Janostin. CPHS Girls Nordic qualified for state and team members Diana Glebova, Rebecca Kolstad, Sydney Crandall, Jennifer Omann,
Sarina Lindell, Katheryn Opanski, and Atley Schreiner were saluted for their accomplishments.
