division champions. The second place designation was awarded to the“ Cheese Curds,” which included team members Gavin Stahl, Grahan Aarsvold and Max Kloss. Wyatt Hanson, Lucas Hooper and Hugh Nightingale, known as the“ Pi Masters,” took third place. Fourth place honors were presented to“ Diamonds” and team members Jake Rekedal, Mason Tillemans, and Alex Knight. Team“ Super Stars,” featuring Briana Narine, Emery Taylor, and Taylor Zahalka, finished in fifth place. Teacher John Wippler served as advisor for these teams.
Champlin Park High School IB full diploma candidates
Mike George, principal, and Ashley Brown, International Baccalaureate( IB) coordinator, introduced 26 students who are candidates for the full IB diploma. Students recognized for this achievement include: William( Cody) Bailey, Philip Baumeister, Joanna Blum, Shannon Daehn, Raaji Daniel, Milki Gemeda, Diana Glebdova, Kirby Goodell, Bryant Huang, Saffron Jensen, Miranda Johnsen, Brianna Johnson, Hannah Lambert, Ethan Lizotte, Savannah Mendoza, Nikki Nguyen, Kovic Odhiambo, Maame Opare-Addo, Arthur Overvold, Wesley Shirola, Christian Stohlmann, Ben Summers, Allison Tieman, Kalista Vang, Marisa Vattendahl Vidal, and Azion White.
Oak View Middle School math and music excellence recognized
Gary Lundeen, principal, introduced a presentation that honored eleven students for high-achievement in math and thirteen students for musical excellence.
Math teacher Lorin Buzay introduced students with top finishes at the St. Cloud State University Math competition. Kenneth Grandell, grade seven, joined grade eight students Zachary Kloek, Nicholas McLaren, and Delanie Schroer, who finished in the top five percent of all competitors. Travis Groess, Jacob Walsh, Joshua Witte, and Maxwell Pickett represented grade seven. Calvin Foy, Kyra Hinkel, and Oliver McVay represented grade eight as top ten percent finishers in the competition. The OVMS eighth grade team finished third overall in the team competitions.
Choir teacher Beth Olson introduced students who were selected for the Minnesota State Honors Choir. Honored sixth-grade students include Cayla Abercrombie, Jordyn Hirte, Evelynne Peterman, Anna Slavik, and Zach Sullivan. Students Elise Gross, Ethan Johnson, Andrew McIntyre, and Nevaeh Schulte were selected from grade seven. Mariah Guenther, Eleanor Lindsay, Eric Macfarlane, and Daniil Magu represented the school from grade eight.
Andover High School shows leadership in the arts
Becky Brodeur, principal, introduced a series of presenters and students who demonstrated leadership and excellence in numerous arts programs offered at Andover High School.
Choir teacher Melanie Kjellberg, introduced seniors Calvin Althoff, Gabrielle Bittner, and Weston Wold who joined junior Lauren Janowiec as students selected for the Minnesota Music Educators Association All-State Choir. Sophomore Bria Deutschlander joined freshmen Grace A. Jacobs and Margaret Sullivan as students selected for the nine / 10 Minnesota State Honors Choir.
Art teacher Bree Nieland introduced high-achieving students in the Scholastic Art Competition, a highly competitive event that showcases visual arts and recognizes excellence by young artists across the state. Gold level awards were presented to seniors Payton Clark and Anna Lentz and junior Jenny Lidberg. Silver level awards were presented to senior Ashley Cofrin and junior Meghan Brandner.
Industrial technology teacher Mike Hecker introduced students with top three finishes in the Minnesota State Fair competitions. Dylan Chiabotti, junior, took second place in photography. Michael Buie, senior, was honored with a first place finish in graphic design. Frank Gillispie, junior, was also honored for a first place finish in graphic design. Madison King, sophomore, and Kayla Dittberner, senior were honored for second place finishes and Christina Meyer, sophomore, was recognized for third place honors, all three competing in the graphic design division.
Speech coach Michelle Pinkham introduced students who advanced on to the National Speech Tournament to be held June 18 through 23 in Birmingham, Alabama. Honored students include Annie Omer, junior, and Jack Slavik, sophomore.
