Community Education Polling places established, cost and election calendar presented The School Board approved a resolution establishing polling places for the Nov. 3 School Board election in election districts 1, 2 and 5. Cindy Reichert, Anoka County elections manager, indicated that if the board were to include a bond or levy question on the ballot, additional polling places would be needed for the remaining election districts. In response to concerns expressed by the district about using schools as polling placees, Reichert noted that she made efforts to choose non-school polling places whenever possible. Only two of the polling places for the upcoming election will be in schools. If a question were added to the ballot, however, an additional three schools would be needed. The school district contracts with Anoka County to administer the election for the district in both Anoka and Hennepin counties. Reichert estimated the cost of the election at $96,284 to cover administrative fees, election judges, ballot printing, and mailing a polling place notice to households. 2 ACTION Reichert also reviewed the election calendar. Candidates must file affidavits of candidacy between July 28 and Aug. 11. The last day to include a levy or bond question on the ballot is Aug. 21. Pre-registration to vote ends Oct. 13. Polls for the Nov. 3 election will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
