Recognitions
Dr. Mary Wolverton, associate superintendent for elementary education, recognized University Avenue Elementary School for Aerospace, Children’s Engineering and Lincoln Elementary School for the Arts for being honored by the Magnet Schools of America (MSA).
University Avenue was named a Magnet School of Excellence by MSA, the group’s highest
honor, and Lincoln was named a Magnet School of Distinction. MSA is a nonprofit organization that provides support and assistance to magnet schools across the nation.
Anoka Halloween President Pat Minor and Treasurer Mary Litke presented a $900 donation
to the School Board to support the media centers at Franklin, Lincoln and Wilson elementary schools. “We’re in our 95th year and we’re proud of our longstanding relationship with
the schools,” Minor said.
Oxbow Creek Elementary School Principal Rolf Carlsen presented fifth grade teacher Keith
Rose, who was named a 2015 Fox 9 News “Top Teacher.” Rose received a $900 check for
winning, which he can use on classroom supplies, as well as a Subway party for up to 100
people. “We’re just reveling in the fact that he represents so many amazing teachers at Oxbow,” Carlsen said. “We’re thrilled for him.”
Anoka Middle School for the Arts Principal Jerri McGonigal recognized eighth grader
Nicholas Waskowsky who earned a premium award at the St. Cloud Regional Science Fair.
She also recognized eighth grader Michael Goldstein, who finished in the top 5 percent in
the St. Cloud Math Contest, and eighth graders Derek Johnson, Jalen Ahlquist and Warren
Blanchard, who finished in the top 10 percent in the math contest.

A future without limit
Sue Opat, coach for Anoka-Hennepin’s adapted soccer and floor hockey teams, recognized
the team for its second place finishes this year in both sports. The team members are: Joey
Manion, Tyler Ezell, Kai France, Lilly Baker, Hana France, Ben Schmitz, Cole Andrzcyzak,
Mia France, Amanda Walen, Michel Arends, Hailey Roering, Ashley Ezell, and managers
Nick Schmitz and Claudia Peterson.
Oak View Middle School Principal Gary Lundeen recognized six students who were named
to the Minnesota State Honors Choir. They are: sixth grader Mariah Guenther, seventh
grader Grace Jacobs, and eighth graders Allison McIntyre, Sophie Johnson, Jack Slavik and
Connor Bullock.
Lundeen also recognized seventh graders Nicholas Preuss, Jacob Aune and Sierra Hinkel
for placing in the top 5 percent at the St. Cloud Math Contest. Seventh graders Ethan Myos,
Bek Allenson and Kaitlyn Callahan, and eighth graders Sam Feine, Jacob Mallet, Brielle
Danczyk, Matthew Brodeur, Dylan Livgard and Anna (Yeying) Shi were recognized for
finishing in the top 10 percent at the contest.
Jackson Middle School Principal Tom Hagerty recognized seven students who were named
to the All State Honor Choir. They are eighth graders Dzidedi Azumah, Alyssa Fisher-Vizenor, Jack Foss, Eric Latyshev, Emma Ockuly, Grace Onstad and Sophie Thouk.
Hagerty then recognized 10 students who finished in the top 5 percent at the St. Cloud
Math Contest. They are seventh graders Sam Rose and Georgie Stammer, and eighth graders Alex Maierhofer, Patrick McArdle, Daniel Duerr, Sam O’Brien, Resse Olsen, Vincent
Kroll, Zach Tverberg and Andrew Coenen. Hagerty also recognized seventh graders Cade
Moffitt, Jack Nightingale, Caden Nafstad, and Ally Qualley, and eighth graders Kayla
