First reading of 2019-10 district calendar and amendment to 2018-19 district calendar
Nicole Tuescher, executive director of human resources, Todd Mensink, director of labor relations and benefits, and LaMoyne Corgard, president of Anoka-Hennepin Education Minnesota, presented options for district calendars for School Board review. The board reviewed a proposal for 2019-20 that included an additional workshop day at the start of the year to support teacher transitions and a start date of Sept. 2, 2019. The early start date combined with an extra day for leap year allows the district flexibility in scheduling and ability to propose a twoweek winter holiday break. The 2018-19 amendment involves ending school for elementary students one day earlier to support transitions for elementary teachers. Approval of both actions will be considered at the May 14 board meeting.

Using a data driven continuous improvement approach, Anoka-Hennepin has been able to monitor and direct resources to priority areas, an effective system for supporting those students who are in greatest need. A focus on addressing identified gaps in student achievement, graduation rates and disruptive student behaviors has been established as a strategic priority by the School Board.
