Adams Elementary student wins state youth art month flag design
Dr. Ann Herlofsky, principal of Adams Elementary, presented Josh Van Norman, grade five, who won first-place in the State of Minnesota in the Youth Art Month flag design contest. His flag will be entered into national competition.
Eisenhower Elementary stock market game
Eisenhower Elementary students were honored for outstanding performance in the Stock Market Game, a regional competition that awards teams for financial results in a mythical investing competition. Amy Reed, principal and Nick Salmi, teacher introduced the students on three teams that captured the top three places in the metro area competition. Honored students include: Tessa Del Fratte, Shaun Cordie, Ryley Rasmussen, Soren Nelson, Olmasaan Ebisso, Malik Jackson, Kyle Healy, Noah Ruska and Brayden Grise.
Andover student named 2018 United State Senate Youth Program Representative
Becky Brodeur, Andover High School principal introduced Anne Omer who was named the 2018 United States Senate Youth Program Representative for the State of Minnesota. Omer is one of two students in Minnesota to receive this prestigious designation.
Anoka High School senior wins Josten’ s Renaissance Scholarship
Mike Farley, Anoka High School( AHS) principal and Lomumba Ismail, AHS social studies teacher presented DJ Bonds appreciation for being awarded the Josten’ s Renaissance Scholarship. Through the program, both the school and the student are awarded.
Anoka High School Scholastic Achievement Art Awards
Gold key level achievement was presented to Maria Hass, Katelyn Karrow, Emma Terzich, Jocelyna Yang, and Madeline Reineke. Silver key level achievement awards were presented to Jaron Aragon, Brittany Davis, Selina Degolier, Jessie Gustafson, Lindsay Hansen, Rachel Mueller, Aleya Reineke, Madeline Rowe and Emma Terzich.
Communications, delegations and petitions
The School Board received testimony in support of expanding educational programs for children with dyslexia from a delegation of district parents.
Finance
Other Post Employment Benefits( OPEB) actuarial update
Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer introduced Phillip Souzek, Deloitte Consulting who provided an update regarding the financial condition of Anoka-Hennepin’ s effort to satisfy projected OPEB obligations. Souzek reported that the district has improved its position regarding the funding ratio to 164 percent, up from 102 percent in 2015. The report is provided annually to the School Board to ensure obligations are being properly addressed.
Trust investment update
Bob Cass, Wells Fargo Senior Vice President- Investments, provided an overview of the district’ s trust investment fund performance for 2017 and historical overview of the fund. Resources from this account are used to satisfy obligations of the district in regard to Other Post Employment Benefits( OPEB). Cass highlighted how past decision-making by the School Board and investment portfolio investment decisions have provided financial stability.
FY18 Budget amendment
Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer, presented an overview of changes necessary to the current year budget due to student enrollment and approved School Board action. After review, the School Board directed the amendment return for consideration at the March 5 meeting.
