Indian education public hearing
The School Board received a presentation regarding programming and key performance indicators of the Indian
Education program for the district. Todd Protivinsky, principal on special assignment led a comprehensive report
that included academic performance, graduation rates, and program updates. Dr. Ben Burgess, Tony Drews,
Mary Beth Elhardt, Jill Lindl, Mindy Meyers, and Jane Zamora, who serve as Indian Education advisors, sup-
ported the presentation with comments.
Recognitions
Finance department
Denise Zurbey, accountant, recently achieved certification through the Minnesota Association of Business Of-
ficials (MASBO). The eleven-part certification ensures finance personnel demonstrate excellence in all areas of
school finance including the levy process, budgeting, special education, food service, transportation, building
and grounds, accounting and auditing, legal and personnel and cash management and investing. The Anoka-
Hennepin finance department is committed to the highest standards of professional management regarding
district resources.
TIES Exceptional Teachers
Dr. Joel VerDuin, chief technology and information officer, introduced TIES Exceptional Teacher Award winners
for 2018. Marilyn Rota, media and learning specialist at Oxbow Creek Elementary and Rachel Frosch, achieve-
ment coach at Anoka High School were honored for their leadership role in the effective use of technology to
support students learning.
Minnesota school bus driver appreciation
Keith Paulson, director of transportation, announced that Feb. 28 has been proclaimed School Bus Driver Ap-
preciation Day in Minnesota. Paulson introduced dedicated bus drivers Jayne Brinkman, Kottes’ Bus Service,
Margie Anderson, First Student-Anoka, and Kayla Ostrom, First Student-Champlin. Anoka-Hennepin is served by
360 school bus drivers who provide outstanding service in support of the district’s educational mission.
2017-18 Kindness poster winners
Cory McIntyre, executive director of student services and Stephanie Ochocki, lead social worker K-12 introduced
winning entries in the 2017-18 Kindness Poster contest. Honored students include Emma Olson, kindergarten,
Johnsville Elementary, Faith Kettering, grade one, Rum River Elementary, Saee More, grade two, Sand Creek
Elementary, Calla Tanner, grade three, Andover Elementary, Claire Matter, grade four, Rum River Elementary,
Grace Erickson, Johnsville Elementary, Amayah Tanner, Coon Rapids Middle School, Thomas Gilbert III, grade
seven, Anoka Middle School for the Arts, Elizabeth Reiman, grade eight, Anoka Middle School for the Arts and
Hailey Peterson, grade nine, Anoka High School. Posters will be on display in district buildings. The annual event
supports a districtwide initiative to support safe and welcoming schools for all students.
