SPANISH CUISINE
Today's Spanish cuisine reflects a rich culinary culture formed as a result of wars, explorations and immigrations that have lived through the geographical location of the country, rich history and ages. Spain has been invaded for its rich mines and fertile lands. First the Phoenicians and the Greeks came, then the Romans invaded. Then the Arabs coming from the north of Africa brought their own customs and cooking techniques; Rich Spanish cultures have also included Middle Eastern food cultures along with Islamic art and religion.
The Spanish is based on eating at frequent intervals, but only slightly, and reflect the Mediterranean style of eating.
The Spaniards start their day with a light breakfast in the early morning hours. Then a second breakfast at 11 o'clock, a small appetizer and sofas called tapas at 13 o'clock, lunch at 2-3 o'clock, afternoon tea and biscuits. Later again the long evening meals with tapas and also plenty of chatting.
In the Mediterranean climate regions of Spain, citrus, fig, grape and olive are grown in abundance. There are more wheat in the inner part, rice in the wetlands and a variety of seafood and fish in the coast. These products shape the eating habits of the community.
Spain is a big country as an area. For this reason, the dishes prepared differ according to the products of that region. But the eating habits are generally the same everywhere in the country.
