Owner, Terran Noir, opened SubRoy in 2012 as home for the (at that time) 6 yr. old Dance Company that had been thriving with- Just Dance! out a formal place of residence. SubRoy’s mission has always been to serve as the hub of commercial dance training within the city of Memphis. Students were not sought after. They just showed up; ready to have fun, work hard, make new friends, and push towards fulfilling their dreams. SubRoy Studios, under the leadership of instructor and choreographer, Terran Noir, has trained dancers whom we have all seen at some point. Terran and Memphis are extremely proud of the SubRoy Alumni company Whether you are just starting out or a professional dancer, this section is for YOU! STUDIO SPOTLIGHT: As professional dancers, these artists have dedicated years upon years to their craft in order to become one of the best. Have you ever wondered where they come from? Or how they achieved such success? Somewhere their home towns, there are studios and instructors who have poured countless hours into molding these dancers’ talent, passion, and dreams. Each month, Studio Spotlight will shine a light on the under-recognized work of the people behind the performers, whose mission is to nurture the seedling of talent recognized in each dancer that enters their studio. A DANCER'S LIFE can be emotional, spiritual, inspiring and most certainly, never long enough. Years and years of strenuous training, long hours, sore muscles, and aching bones are so worth it when dance is truly your passion. This creativity never leaves the mind or spirit of a dancer. Yet over time, the body can’t seem to grand jete’ like it used to and the knees refuse to plie’. So what do we do when the soul says yes, “dance”! But the body says, no? What’s next? This segment will hopefully inspire those of you who are at the “what’s next” moment of your lives. It will help you to discover creative ways to continue to fuel your passion and live your dancer’s life to the fullest. Each month we will take a journey with amazing performers who have done just that and are now living the hereafter of “a dancer’s life”. members who are trailblazers for the next generation of Mid-South dancers. Terran Noir looks forward to the many new professionals being guided at SubRoy and training to stake claim in the international dance community. Who are some of these talented SubRoy Alumni? SubRoy is honored to boast of: • CHARLES RILEY, aka Lil Buck, is known for his personalized style of Jookin, an indigenous dance born in the streets of Memphis. Lil Buck has performed as a principle dancer with Madonna, cellist YoYo Ma, and was one of the original Kia Soul Hamsters. He has also appeared as a guest judge on, “So You Think You Can Dance” amongst his long list of accomplishments. • SALEMAH GABRIEL, began her professional career at age 15, with credits including Justin Beiber’s BELIEVE tour, the Fall Out Boys, Willow Smith, a host of award shows, music videos, Disney’s “Shake it Up” and her break out acting rol
