FPHP: Back Then, Here Now and Beyond the
Near Future
by: Ahmad Khairuman Md Hasim
Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management (FTHM), UiTM
Melaka started its operation in 1999 with only 28 diploma students.
Eighteen years later, the faculty has grown with more than 600 stu-
dents and 19 lecturers. Many of the graduates has become industry
players in the hospitality and tourism field. In academia, numerous
papers and innovations have been published internationally and local-
ly. The hosting of the International Hotel and Tourism Conference
(IHTC2015) was the evidence of the faculty commitment to strive for
international recognition.
We are so proud that our students and lecturers have made
several outstanding achievements not only in the university level but
also at state, national and international levels. We have also contrib-
uted to the fields of volunteerism, performance arts, sports, corporate
social responsibility, industrial networking, professional attachments
and collaboration with various private and public agencies.
Living in the era of globalization, it is only right that transfor-
mation is well and truly needed in meeting the demands of today’s
world. Hence, the implementation of the new diploma and degree
curriculum in 2018 will be more holistic and dynamic by taking into
consideration the application of Harvard Outcomes Domain,
Sustainable Development Goals and implementation of iCGPA as the
main organs of its development and implementation. Furthermore,
the launching of international summer programs by the faculty was
truly exciting where international students could enroll in specially
tailored short courses which open the sphere of introducing Melaka
as a major tourist destination. Other than that, entrepreneurship
has always been the vision of the university and the faculty has taken
measures in developing viable and more practical entrepreneurship
training to equip our students to become future major players in the
industry. These efforts are done in preparing ourselves in riding the
wave of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. I hope all that has been
planned might shift the faculty to a new height never ever dreamt
before.
