Wimbledon comes to Central Park

The All England Lawn Tennis Club brought a taste of the Wimbledon Championships to New York on 26-29 June by staging a grass court tennis competition in Central Park. The Wimbledon Court Invitational involved the creation of a pop-up grass tennis court laid on the Wollman Rink in Central Park. It was the first time the Wollman Rink has been transformed into a temporary grass tennis court, which was installed and maintained by Wimbledon’ s ground staff including its agronomist Mark Ferguson. The tournament saw tennis legends Andre Agassi and Caroline Wozniack take to the court in friendly exhibition matches. Sponsored by Barclays, the event also saw the installation of huge screens to show ESPN’ s live coverage of The Wimbledon Championships.

Reggaeton Beach Festival cancelled

All eight editions of touring event Reggaeton Beach Festival have been cancelled. The shows in Barcelona, Madrid, Tenerife, Alicante, Santander, Nigrán, and Mallorca have been called off by the event’ s organisers who cited economic, financial and operational circumstances that significantly affected the viability of the project. The show series was due to kick off in Barcelona on 27-28 June, with a lineup including Anuel AA, Myke Towers, Ñengo Flow and Luar La L.

Live Nation reveals Dublin venue plans

Dublin is expected to see the creation of the country’ s biggest live entertainment venue after Live Nation, Oak View Group and Gaiety Investments confirmed they have acquired a site for a new arena in the city’ s docklands for € 90 million. Currently known as Merchants Yard, the site at North Wall is expected to be renamed Brickyards. It is only 800 metres from the Live Nation-operated 3Arena, which has an audience capacity of 13,000. According to The Irish Times, Live Nation has registered a company in Ireland called Live Nation Brickyards, with a listed address at the 3Arena. The company is expected to oversee the development of a new 20,000-capacity music and sports venue on the site at a cost of around € 500 million.
