CANADA
$ 17m fund created for independent live music workers Canadian music industry charity The Unison Fund has launched a $ 16.8m (£ 10.8m ) fund aimed at helping independent and self-employed workers in the live music sector .
The funding was provided by the Government of Canada to The Unison Fund , in recognition that the live performing arts sector was disproportionately affected by the pandemic . Unison has developed the Live Music Workers Fund to provide approved applicants with a one-time lump sum payment of $ 2,500 (£ 8,000 ).
SCOTLAND NETHERLANDS
Green hydrogen powers HebCelt Festival On 13-16 July , PlusZero powered Scotland ’ s HebCelt Festival at Stornoway using green hydrogen produced locally on the Scottish Western Isles .
In 2021 , PlusZero ran a series of trials for its green hydrogen-fuelled generators to power high-profile events as diverse as COP26 , the Edinburgh Festival and the international Extreme E sports car rally in Dorset .
PlusZero director Mark Irving said , “$ 14bn [£ 11.2bn ] is spent annually on diesel generators worldwide , in sectors as diverse as outdoor events , film location powering , construction , back-up power – in fact , anywhere where portable [ off-grid ] power is needed . These diesel generators burn 95bn litres of diesel at a cost of $ 126bn and emit 250m tonnes CO2e per annum . “ In order to meet global net-zero targets we need a carbon-free alternative .”
Superstruct ’ s ID & T acquires Apenkooi
Dutch music event promoter ID & T , part of global live entertainment giant Superstruct Entertainment , has acquired Amsterdam-based electronic music event promoter Apenkooi Group .
One of the leading electronic music promoters in The Netherlands , Apenkooi ’ s portfolio of events includes DGTL , STRAF _ WERK , Pleinvrees , Amsterdam Open Air and The Gardens of Babylon . Apenkooi also organises festivals internationally and promotes the Elrow events in The Netherlands .
The move is the latest in a string of acquisitions that strengthens Providence Equity-owned Superstruct ’ s global portfolio of events , which includes the UK ’ s Victorious Festival ( 100,000 ), Bluedot ( 21,000 ), Kendal Calling ( 25,000 ), Truck ( 10,000 ), Tramlines ( 40,000 ) and Boardmasters ( 50,000 ).
