Noba Event WiFi ’ s Nick Taylor on the rise of Event Connectivity Consultancy

With reliable connectivity now an essential element of any large-scale event , Nick Taylor , MD of Noba , explains why Connectivity Consultancy is the latest addition to their service portfolio .

Providing high-density WiFi and site-wide connectivity for any large-scale event is a challenging feat .

The expectation of the event community for purpose-built convention centres and event venues to have fit-for-purpose infrastructure to support a connectivity network for large , tech-heavy events has never been greater . Organisers expect a fast , robust and reliable service to be a given . However , in our experience , as events become more technically complex , this is often not the case . Large expos and events will typically have network and telecoms requirements above and beyond the venue ’ s day-today operational capability and will usually need what is referred to , as a ‘ temporary overlay ’.
The impact of poor connectivity for commercial expos and events is extensive . The network requirements are usually extensive and complex for a major international event . There are event organiser network requirements to consider , such as registration systems , food and beverage , security , WiFi , show control / command centres , and a

wide array of exhibitor network requirements . Self-built exhibition stands and shell scheme exhibitors expect to be able to order from a rate card for bespoke network services in addition to having access to high-speed WiFi . Network failure or lack of availability of crucial services can be very costly to the event ’ s success and seriously affect the commercial outcome .
For a major international event , robust and reliable public WiFi will also be critical to the delegate experience . Connectivity requirements must include a high-density WiFi deployment that covers not only the indoor exhibition spaces but typically demonstration and outdoor display areas , too . These areas may not be part of the existing network and must be factored into any temporary overlay .
Considerations extend beyond providing a quality network . Whilst exhibitors having flexibility with connectivity and technology on their stands is usually essential for them to provide a quality experience for their visitors , it ’ s also important from an event point of view that this process is controlled with robust policies to ensure stands are not causing interference with each other , or with existing systems in the venue .
Guidance for exhibitors is usually provided within an exhibitor manual to prevent issues , but in some cases , these policies and procedures are missing , which can have serious implications . This is where Noba ’ s WiFi consultancy service comes in .
Organisers are looking for professional help to bridge the gap between them and the venue ’ s IT team to optimise network user experience . A consultative approach to understanding the extent and scope of services required and determining the venue infrastructure ’ s overlay options , costs , features and revenue possibilities for organisers is key .
