With the industry having navigated the first full summer season of live events since 2019 , which for some was the most challenging in memory , many of its leading suppliers and professionals were called into action again to play a part in Operation London Bridge .
As highlighted on page 8 & 9 of this issue , the undertaking was a huge one . We are aware of the many companies that provided their products , skills and services over the 10-day period following the Queen ’ s death , but it is a reflection of their professionalism and poise that they wish to refrain from being credited . The operation once again emphasised the vitally important contribution the live events industry makes to Britain ’ s ability to rise to any occasion .
In this issue we also explore the rapid rate of change in event technology , from production ( p43 ) to developments across customer experience , access , retail , ticketing and virtual events ( p24 ).
As the sun sets on the summer of 2022 , major live music and sporting events operators reflect on a year that saw huge numbers of outdoor events , huge numbers of tickets sold , and not an insignificant number of challenges overcome ( p16 ). Issues ranged from soaring costs and supply chain problems to managing eye-watering workloads with reduced staff numbers . It was a record year for many event operators but as the focus falls to 2023 , there are calls for Government support , and a cross-industry consumer-facing campaign to emphasise value for money .
There is no doubt it has been a year of considerable achievement by events professionals across the industry , and with the aim of highlighting that while also sharing ideas and industry expertise , AAA is launching a one-day awards and conference event on 10 November . I hope to see you there .
