With the ongoing uncertainty for all in our industry , in particular the huge psychological and financial pressure on the many thousands of freelance event professionals , we can only hope that recent positive developments are the first of many significant signs of light at the end of the tunnel .
The fact that 1,385 venues , festivals , promoters and organisations have been granted a share of the £ 257 million Cultural Recovery Fund ( p7 ), in particular the £ 4.5m awarded to AIF festival members , is a huge step forward .
We are seeing an increasing number of festivals go on sale ( p16 ) and there has been a remarkable amount of work to ensure venues are Covid-safe ( p22 ). In London alone The O2 arena ( p6 ), Royal Albert Hall , Alexandra Palace and London Palladium are all staging gigs .
Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham may now be battling to defend the city ’ s hospitality and entertainment sector ’ s right to operate but looking ahead his metropolis is set to become the home of the UK ’ s biggest arena – the 23,000-capacity Co-op Live , built by the Oak View Group .
Another hugely positive step was the recent launch of the One Industry One Voice campaign . It has provided our industry with a more united and amplified voice in the effort to ensure no one gets left behind while we navigate our way through this crisis .
