MARCH | SECTOR FOCUS emerging fuel oil options and hybrid solutions allowing us to work with fluctuating energy costs: “All our site lighting options are expanding with a greater emphasis on LED solutions inherently lowering power requirements. To meet noise regulations where power is supplied 24 hours per day we deploy silenced generators in combination with battery storage technologies, greatly reducing issues for any residential areas which may fall within close proximity of an event. “To help organisers manage fuel demand we continually monitor power consumption at all sites and employ remote monitoring solutions to ensure that the generators supplied are not oversized and to keep performance at it’s best. “Accurate data recording of power usage over time is invaluable as this information is key to subsequent event designs.” Brown says that hybrid 52 “We’re really lucky that we have so many good, and varied clients from independent festivals ” solutions are an exciting technology his company are deploying. “There’s a balance between the better environmental performance they can offer, increased transport emissions for transporting more equipment to site and the ever-present budget demands. “To ensure we’re doing more good than harm we need to have detailed knowledge of the loads which we’ll be supplying. “Data logging and analysis is coming to the fore - clients are increasingly expecting us to show them where the energy has been used and to show them that we’re specifying our systems appropriately. “We’re beginning to be able to feed data gathered in previous years into our planning. Emissions regulations will continue to drive change in generator technology to reduce emissions.” In terms of new innovations, Whitecross says, RS Power has integrated battery storage solutions into oits design where information has been detailed enough to do so confidently: “Technology improvements in this area is allowing us to deliver larger power supplies for a longer period of time. It is becoming more cost effective to deploy however the implementation of battery storage in the industry is still at the willingness for the organiser to pay a premium for this service.” Ultimately, being greener has helped keep clients happy. “It sounds trite,” says Brown, “but we take pride in all of our jobs. We’re probably most pleased that we’ve been gaining new clients while retaining our loyal client base – some of whom we have worked with for thirty years. “We’re really lucky that we have so many good, and varied clients from independent festivals to larger concert series to large festivals. We’re proud that our crews will go out and deliver the same excellent service whether you’re having a wedding in your back garden or inviting 50,000 paying customers onto your festival site. “We’re really grateful to be trusted time and again to go into sensitive locations and deliver the goods without damaging the unique venues we are working in - whether they are Sites of Special Scientific Interest, stately homes or historic buildings.”
