POWER MARCH | SECTOR FOCUS Increased emphasis on power reduction is causing longer lead times on power requirements E nvironmental factors are foremost in many event organisers’ minds at the minute with Climate Change becoming a concern with the general public. Jim Brown, general manager, Pearce Hire, has noticed that this has risen up the agenda with almost every client - which he’s pleased to see. “The increased focus on the environment means that we need to be involved earlier than ever in the planning process with clients to devise solutions which reduce our environmental impact. “As a business, for many years Pearce Hire has innovated to reduce wasted energy on our sites by using photocell switching and energy efficient lighting and festoon - and we implemented this way before it was fashionable. “We’re now into a phase where we need to improve the performance of our generators in terms of emissions and reduce Pearce hIRE Also power and lighting design for the spectacular Winter Lights at Anglesey Abbey and Gardens “It is essential that we have the knowledge and access to resources to provide more efficient and sustainable methods to power events” their running times by using load demand setups and hybrid units.” Meanwhile, Clair Whitecross, business development director, at Visions Group’s RS Power, says organisers are tasked with finding greener, more sustainable ways to power their events and are increasingly looking at ways to improve reductions in emissions, measuring fuel efficiencies and managing overall power requirements. “As a supplier it is essential that we have the knowledge and access to resources to provide more efficient and sustainable methods to power events. “The key to this is training and hands on time with technologies both new and developing to the market. Supplier relationships are key to gaining access to this equipment on a regular basis. “Regardless of whether it is a festival, TV film shoot, product launch or wedding, the biggest challenge that we often face is obtaining detailed accurate information from the organiser about their site and the power required at both peak and off peak times. “This information enables us to facilitate a bespoke design that incorporates all the tools available to us in order to achieve lower emissions and a better use of the equipment available to us with easier integration of hybrid solutions to further reduce fuel consumptions and therefore potentially also reducing costs.” Whitecross has also seen a shift in focus. “We ensure we are able to offer new and 51
