Wireless Festival to see NEC Birmingham host outdoor festival

New Leighton Live festival to launch on Jubilee Weekend

Promoter Northern Powerhouse Events is to launch a new oneoff festival at Leighton Hall Estate in Lancashire on the Queen ’ s Jubilee bank holiday weekend ( 3-5 June ).
The organisers of Lancaster ’ s Highest Point festival ( cap . 35,000 ) said that UB40 , Ministry of Sound Disco , Sister Sledge and The Halle will perform at Leighton Live , which will have a capacity of 9,999 .
The Events Company will oversee the production of the festival , which will be set in the historic grounds of the Leighton Hall Estate in Carnforth .
Leighton Live director Jamie Scahill said , “ The location of Leighton Live is absolutely stunning , and not only will guests get to enjoy the incredible music , but they will also be able to explore the grounds of this local beauty spot , and enjoy some ace food and drink across the weekend .”
Festival Republic will , for the first time , run the Wireless Festival ( cap . 45,000 ) across three sites this year . Wireless will become the first major outdoor event of its kind to take place at the NEC Birmingham .
NEC said its first move into the outdoor festival business will see Wireless use five of the venue ’ s car parks , which form part of 446 acres of outdoor event space available on the campus .
NEC new business director
Richard Mann said , “ This approach to hosting a festival on concrete is a tried and tested method commonly seen in the US and will no doubt improve the logistics associated with our great British weather .
Wireless Birmingham will take place from 8-10 July with headliners including Dave , Cardi B and J . Cole . The Ticket Factory , the official box office for the NEC , has been appointed as a ticket agent for the event .

SEC sets 2030 net zero target

The Scottish Event Campus ( SEC ), which consists of the OVO Hydro ( cap . 14,300 ), the SEC Armadillo ( 3,000 ) and the SEC Centre , said it aims to become net zero by 2030 .
The news follows the Glasgow venue ’ s hosting of COP26 last year and its involvement as a founding partner of the NetZeroCarbon Events pledge , which launched during the conference .
The organisation said it will develop an energy strategy focused on water efficiency , green travel , supply chain engagement and waste management . Its current sustainable measures include ensuring that 100 % of the venue ’ s electricity comes from renewable sources .
The SEC is working towards A Greener Festival ’ s Greener Arena certification and , in the run-up to COP26 , it launched a sustainable food strategy in partnership with Levy UK with a minimum of 80 % of all ingredients sourced in Scotland .
SEC CEO Peter Duthie said , “ We recognise how significant a challenge this is , but we are determined to reach this goal . We have the vision and an excellent team , deep in planning mode , to get us there .”
