One of the most rewarding and enjoyable aspects of working on the Event Production Show ( p40 ) this year was watching senior executives from different corners of our vibrant and diverse industry meet , many for the first time , to share views , experiences and ideas .
During the pandemic ’ s darkest moments , the industry collaborated in new and effective ways to help get vital messages across at a Government level , with initiatives such as LIVE ( Live Music Industry Venues and Entertainment ) and One Industry One Voice playing a key role . With everyone now able to focus on the day job , and with an incredibly busy year ahead , it was reassuring to see that the spirit or collaboration shows no signs of dimming .
The old proverb ‘ unity is strength ’ may be overused but it could hardly be more appropriate in the current situation ; with the sector needing to collectively tackle rising costs , personnel shortages , Brexit-induced red tape and increased VAT on ticket sales to name just a few issues .
Never shy of a challenge , the live events industry is stepping up to the plate to bring the public an unprecedented choice of major shows . Among the biggest new music festivals this year will be AEG / Team Love ’ s Forwards ( p18 ), and there are huge Government-backed oneoff ’ s such as Unboxed ( p28 ), but the positive approach isn ’ t limited to the UK . Despite the increasingly shocking situation in Ukraine , the European festival market is spawning new and impressive major events throughout the continent ( p21 ).
In this issue we explore the impressive work of key players across the UK and beyond who are looking to bring entertainment to the masses at a time when it could hardly be more needed .
