Learning at Crofton House
Crofton House School offers a girl-centred learning environment for students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Our students are motivated to strive for their best selves, embracing academic challenge and diverse experiences, guided by staff who know them and believe in them.
Learning at Crofton House is thoughtfully designed to meet the unique needs and learning preferences of girls, fostering their natural curiosity, agency and love of learning. The CHS approach is both girlcentred and aimed at supporting the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional needs of girls. It is the school’ s belief that when girls feel valued, understood and empowered, they thrive both academically and personally.
The CHS Learning Framework
The Learning Framework, developed with CHS staff who specialize in girl-centred learning and incorporating the latest pedagogical research, articulates Crofton House’ s approach to teaching and learning.
The framework reflects how girls learn best— by feeling seen and valued, being encouraged to take risks and ask bold questions, taking ownership of their learning, and working together to explore, create and innovate.
Underpinned by the CHS Identity and our School values, the framework reflects the principles of the BC Curriculum and is fundamentally informed by the First Peoples’ Principles of Learning.
At the heart of the framework are two fundamental concepts:
• Belonging, agency, and competence are interlinked and fundamental to a deeper learning experience. When students feel connected to adults, peers, and place, and have a sense of ownership over their learning, they are more engaged and, as a result, develop their understanding and skills more effectively.
• Adopting a growth mindset is crucial to any successful learning journey. When students believe that they can grow their ability through effort, they are more likely to persevere and achieve better outcomes.
