In this Advanced Placement course students will be challenged to learn about the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding , use , and alteration of the Earth ’ s surface . Students learn to employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine socio-economic organization and its environmental consequences . They also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their research and applications . The course is organized into seven broad topics : the nature and perspective of geography ; population and migration ; cultural patterns and processes ; political organization of space ; agriculture , food production and rural land use ; industrialization and economic development ; and cities and urban land use . AP Human Geography offers students the opportunity to be well-informed about the human geography of the world today and to tackle challenging university-level material .
