Spanish 9 is designed for students both with and without previous experience with Spanish and who are enthusiastic about exploring the Hispanic language and culture . The outcomes for the learners may differ based on their previous experiences with Spanish . Students who have limited or nonexistent experience with the culture and no knowledge of vocabulary and basic Spanish grammar should be able to interact with others using memorized vocabulary and displaying basic cultural knowledge by the end of the course . Students who have been exposed to the Spanish language or have been taking Spanish classes in the past will be able to write a challenge test leading towards AP Spanish Language and Culture . Assessment in both paths include interpretive , interpersonal , and presentational modes of communication . Each mode addresses how students speak , write , listen , view and use media .

Spanish 10 is intended for students who are passionate about discovering Hispanic language and culture but have minimal or non-existent cultural experience and no knowledge of Spanish vocabulary and basic grammar . By the end of this course , students should be able to communicate orally and in writing using basic regular and irregular verbs in the present tense . A successful student in this class should be able to have a basic conversation , to introduce herself and someone else , to talk about interests and activities , and to ask and answer simple questions . Assessment in this course includes interpretive , interpersonal , and presentational modes of communication . Each mode addresses how students speak , write , listen , view and use media .
Students with a solid linguistic and cultural background will further develop their linguistic and cultural competencies . Through completing this course , students will employ critical thinking skills as they compare the Hispanic language and culture with their own community . Students at this level should be able to participate in spontaneous spoken and written conversations , make presentations and express their thoughts through spoken and written Spanish . Students in Spanish 11 ( 10 Accelerated ) will receive credit for Spanish 11 at the completion of this course . Students will be prepared to move through the curriculum at an accelerated rate in order to complete Spanish 12 by the end of their Grade 11 year . Assessment includes interpretive , interpersonal , and presentational modes of communication . Each mode addresses how students speak , write , listen , view and use media .

Spanish 11 focuses on using Spanish in authentic reallife situations that further develops Spanish language skills and an appreciation of the wide range of cultural perspectives that make up the Hispanic World .
