leaders . Students will be safely introduced to outdoor activities that may include : canoeing , hiking and backpacking , kayaking , snowshoe and winter camping , cross country skiing , rock climbing , and navigation skills . Students will attend classes as per the regular school schedule . In addition , students will attend numerous day and multi-day field trips which will take them beyond regular school hours . Through these trips , students will learn and practice outdoor skills , explore different parts of BC , and develop core competencies such as communication , critical thinking , problem-solving , personal awareness and responsibility , social responsibility , and personal leadership . Students will also focus on healthy and active living , social and community health and mental well-being . Students are responsible for supplying their own equipment including : proper footwear , clothing , sleeping bags , sleeping mats and food . Crofton House School will supply group equipment such as tarps , tents , stoves and fuel . The cost of the program will cover expenditures such as guide fees , equipment rentals , and transportation . Assessment will take place on an ongoing basis using the methods of self , peer , and teacher evaluations . Assessment is based on , but not limited to , trip preparation and participation , projects , in-class assignments and activities . Note : Students electing to take Outdoor Education in Grade 10 must also complete Physical and Health Education 10 ( Ministry requirement for Graduation ) in Grade 10 , 11 or 12 . It is recommended the student take Physical and Health Education 10 and Outdoor Education 11 courses concurrently . Please note for 2022-23 there is an additional cost of $ 2000 per student for the Outdoor Education 11 course .

Through a variety of physical activities , individualized health and fitness plans , related volunteer work and service , students learn the necessary skills and understanding to be active over their lifetime . Students also engage in professional certification training in CPR-C and Sport First Aid . Assessment will take place through health assignments , self , peer , and teacher evaluations of physical literacy , a fitness inquiry project , and participation rubrics for leadership , fair play , and safety .

Active Living 12 extends further on the three big ideas ; participation in physical activity as an important component of health and wellbeing , exploring the connection with enjoying recreational activities and the motivation to participate in more regular physical activity , and the role of safety and injury prevention practices in allowing lifelong physical activities . Students will build on the leadership component of this course and assist in the facilitation through a variety of physical activities , individualized health and fitness plans , related volunteer work and service , students learn the necessary skills and understanding to be active over their lifetime . Students also engage in professional certification training in CPR-C and Sport First Aid . The major development of this course shifts to focus on self- and peer-assessment and reflection of learning . Assessment will further extend on investigation of health assignments , self , peerevaluations of physical literacy , a peer fitness inquiry project , and participation rubrics for leadership , fair play , and safety .

Active Living 11 focuses on three big ideas ; participation in physical activity as an important component of health and wellbeing , exploring the connection with enjoying recreational activities and the motivation to participate in more regular physical activity , and the role of safety and injury prevention practices in allowing lifelong physical activities .
