Physical and Health Education 8 is designed to develop students who have the knowledge , skills , and understanding they need to be safe , active , and healthy citizens throughout their lives . The course explores the many aspects of well-being , including physical , mental , and social wellness , and develops the necessary skills and strategies needed for lifelong participation in a range of physical activities . Assessment is performed using a variety of strategies to evaluate the development of skills and knowledge in the various curricular competencies including physical literacy , healthy and active living , social and community health and mental well-being . Methods of assessment may include health assignments , self and teacher evaluations of physical literacy , a fitness inquiry project and rubrics for leadership , fair play , and safety .

Physical Education 10 will continue to develop the necessary skills , attitude and knowledge required to be a physically educated person . The emphasis of the course shifts from the skills acquired in PHE 9 to the participation in lifetime sports and physical activities , while developing leadership and group organizational skills . Major areas of focus include health and wellness , strategies and skills for invasive team games , individual and dual activities , and the development of individualized fitness plans . In the health portion of the course , students focus on healthy and active living , social and community health , and mental well-being . Assessment will take place through health assignments , self , peer , and teacher evaluations of physical literacy , a fitness inquiry project and participation rubrics for leadership , fair play , and safety .
