JOIN US FOR AN

INNER-CITY

CLEAN UP

All residents of Gqeberha are invited to join a fun City Clean Up in the prelude to the 2023 Absa RUN YOUR CITY GQEBERHA 10K .

The Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series is also about giving back to the communities where we host our events , so we are inviting not only our runners , but all Gqeberha residents , to join us for a fun inner-city ‘ Clean Up ’ on Saturday 1 April .

The clean-up will start at the Absa building on 51 Govan Mbeki Street , Gqeberha at 8:30am . We will work in that area until 10am , to clean up as much as possible in the build-up to the Absa RUN YOUR CITY GQEBERHA 10K , which will make its debut on Sunday 2 April .
“ We are excited to celebrate the debut of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY GQEBERHA 10K with a fun inner-city ‘ Clean Up ’ the day before the event ,” says Michael Meyer , Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series . “ We are proud to play our part in keeping our host city clean and would like to invite all residents to join us .”
More Than Just a Race
The Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series organisers believe that the ‘ Clean Up ’ is the perfect way to not only get the community involved in the event , but it is also a way of building excitement for the upcoming race . If you need some incentive to be part of this race build-up , Absa will be supplying scrumptious breakfast packs and refreshments after the ‘ clean up .’
The Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series will provide refuse bags and gloves for all volunteers , and once filled , the bags will be collected and disposed of . What greater reward than knowing that you have made a positive contribution towards our shared love for the environment and making a sustainable difference in the city of Gqeberha ?
Focus on Reducing Waste
The Gqeberha inner-city ‘ Clean Up ’ ties in perfectly with the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series ’ Single-use Plastic ( SUP ) Management Campaign , which aims to drastically reduce the usage of single-use plastics by 85 % at all five events in the series . “ Our ultimate goal is to host a mass participation road running series that is plastic-free and highlights the splendour of each host city , while celebrating its people , their talent and the amazing sport ,” says Meyer .
“ Continuing our partnership with # RunClean , we will implement strict ‘ litter zones ’ on event day to ensure a litter-free route . We are also encouraging runners to be selfsustained with the # ICarryMyOwn movement , by running with the DHL water bottle that they will receive in their race packs , compliments of our awesome logistics partner .”
