2014 Automechanika Frankfurt Federal-Mogul Makes Some Big Announcements The planned separation will be implemented through a tax-free distribution of FederalMogul’s Motorparts division to shareholders of Federal-Mogul Holdings Corporation (see related article in aBr September 2014 issue, page 72). Another big announcement was that Federal-Mogul Motorparts is supplying the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class with ecological low-copper Eco-Friction® brake pads. ➲ Rainer Zeitlow on the road in his world record attempt This is the first vehicle equipped with the company’s innovative brake pads before the new low-copper legislation, which takes effect in 2025. As part of its continued commitment to the environment, Federal-Mogul developed the lead-free bearings nine years ahead of legislative requirements. Ferodo’s dedication to keep customers in control of their range and coverage means that the aftermarket product will be launched simultaneously with the OE product. In addition, the new Nüral Elastothermic® piston was launched. Nüral’s latest generation of Elastothermic pistons for petrol engines have been developed specifically to withstand high temperatures and the harsh thermal cycles of today’s downsized turbocharged engines. The launch of low-copper pads on the new MercedesBenz C-Class is also the first time that a technology has been made available simultaneously to the OE market and the aftermarket. These pistons have an oval-shaped skirt, which features a reduced boss gap and a smaller distance between the inclined side panels. Of interest to South Africans was the announcement that Federal-Mogul Motorparts was supporting Challenge4, a specialist in worldwide automotive projects with Volkswagen vehicles, in its world record attempt to drive from Nordkapp, Norway (the northernmost point in Europe) to Cape Agulhas, South Africa (the southernmost point in Africa) in less than 28 days. ➲ Ferodo Eco-Friction Brake Pads Another environmentally friendly move was the launch of the range of Glyco® lead-free engine bearings for the aftermarket, which makes Federal-Mogul the first company to offer a comprehensive portfolio of lead-free bearing products to the aftermarket. | words in action ➲ Nüral’s Elastothermic piston 23 november 2014 2014 Automechanika Frankfurt At the Automechanika, Federal-Mogul confirmed its plans to separate its Powertrain and Motorparts divisions into two independent, publicly-traded companies serving the global original equipment and aftermarket industries.
