A STACKED TEAM
THE WINGED WONDER
A TERRIFIC FOM FOR THE TEAM
A STACKED TEAM
Efficiency Motorsports has five drivers present at the 2026 FOM weekend. Anthony Casey was in his Alfa Romeo Giulia QV. André Steenkamp travelled up from Cape Town for the weekend to campaign in an Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0. Aqil Singh was also in an Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0.
Craig Czank chose his dramatic VW-powered Lotus Exige. One of the most unique competition cars in South Africa, Craig ' s Exige is powered by a turbocharged VW R32 engine, boosting 447 kW, and is always a crowd favourite.
The Exige ' s mid-engine layout and legendary Lotus chassis balance make it an incredible time attack racer with a skilled driver at the wheel. Craig ' s decades of motorsports experience mean he knows exactly how to exploit the Exige ' s combination of boosted V6 power and excellent agility.
Devin Robertson was Efficiency Motorsports ' fifth driver for the 2026 FOM and drove two different cars over the weekend: a youngtimer Nissan GTR R32 and a V8-powered BMW E92 M3. After being so fast at the Zwartkops Top of the Hill event, much was expected from Devin at Kylamai.
The Vilaca Racing Time Attack Championship has created an amazing class of racing. Featuring everything from purpose-built time attack machines to street cars that are often daily drivers, but with enough competition credentials to venture onto the track for a few laps to set a time attack time.
What makes time attack racing so thrilling for spectators is the variety of cars. Efficiency Motorsports ' presence at the 2026 FOM perfectly illustrated that. The team has purposefully modified time attack cars( Craig ' s Lotus Exige) and the lightweight Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0s, which are daily drivers.
THE WINGED WONDER
Aerodynamics has revolutionised racing, since Colin Chapman started experimenting with wings on Lotus F1 cars in the late 1960s. After breakthroughs by Porsche at Le Mans with its endurance racers throughout the 1970s and 1980s, aerodynamics have become a dominant advantage in modern racing. The ability to enhance mechanical grip, allowing higher corner speeds without more engine power, is what makes aerodynamic upgrades so valuable. Small aero upgrades deliver disproportionately big outcomes at speed. Fittingly, the Efficiency Motorsports car with the most trick aero for the Kyalami Vilaca time attack was Craig ' s Lotus Exige. A car that can trace its design heritage and engineering principles to Colin Chapman ' s Lotus F1 cars.
There are two very distinct worlds in aero upgrades: cosmetic and effective. And many wings and spoilers, unfortunately, are just cosmetic road car styling upgrades, without realising their true aerodynamic potential. Craig has worked extensively to develop the aerodynamics on his Lotus Exige, and at a high-speed, highly technical circuit like Kyalami, it proved its worth.
A TERRIFIC FOM FOR THE TEAM
When the Vilaca time attack runs were done for the 2026 Kyalami FOS weekend, Efficiency Motorsport proudly classified with two podiums.
Devin managed to lap his BMW E92 M3 around Kyalami in 1:51.057, with Craig helming the Lotus Exige in 1:59.870. Two excellent podiums for Efficiency Motorsport drivers. André also delivered a focused fastest lap of 2:09.855 in the Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0.
The 2026 Kyalami FOM was a terrific gathering. For all Efficiency Motorsports drivers and technical support crew, it was a privilege to be part of what is the highlight of motoring in South Africa.
