Kabwata
Mall opens
its doors
By Heinrich Malan
On 25 March 2020 the doors to the Shoprite Kabwata officially opened.
It is one of the most challenging projects Time Projects has completed
because of land issues, devaluation of the Kwacha and informal traders
on the adjoining site. In addition, the mall also opened during the heat of
the Covid-19 pandemic which brought the whole world to a standstill. It is
in situations like these that we have to focus on the positives in life as the
negative in media and social media can influence our decisions.
After securing the Kabwata land in 2013 and an infinite battle to purchase
another 1 500m² to gain access into the plot, the site was officially handed
over to the main contractor, Zhengtai, on 26 September 2018. They have
had their hands full during construction, working in a very densely populated
area, dealing with the Kabwata Clinic, Kabwata Police station, marketeers
and residents of the area. They pulled it off and today the community is
benefiting from an A-grade retail experience at their doorstep.
Our Time Projects family and Shoprite proved that giving up is not an
option. We bring together plans with courage during challenging times
and always aim to find the best solution for all parties. We feel highly
satisfied with our achievement at Kabwata and soon the following shops
will open their doors: Hungry Lion, Charisa Beauty, Milestone Pharmacy,
Goat and Chips and ABSA.
