GENERAL NEWS

From the MD ’ s desk

By Brett Marlin

It seems as if we have only just started the year , but when we look at the calendar , we are already in the second half of the year and quickly rushing towards the December break . It certainly feels as if time is going faster and faster but maybe it ’ s just old age that makes this happen .

There is still so much happening this year I think that before we blink it ’ s going to be the December break .
After a hiatus of two years , the Time Adventure Challenge is going to be held again on Sunday 23 October , once again in Mokolodi Nature Reserve . For those who don ’ t know about the Time Adventure Challenge , it is a four-leg relay race inside Mokolodi Nature Reserve which starts with a 10km trail run followed by a 15km mountain bike ride , then another 15km mountain bike ride and finishes with a 5km trail run . Each leg needs to be completed by a member before the next member can continue . Although it ’ s a relay race you can take part as an individual or even teams of two to three people as long as all the legs are completed in order . We started this event in 2014 as a way of giving back to the community . All the participants ’ entry fees are used for the charitable cause and Time sponsors all the costs of running the event . That way together with Time ’ s clients , associates and friends , we contribute collectively towards social responsibility . There are six different categories so anybody can enter . It ’ s not an event that ’ s only for serious athletes ! If you are wanting to enter , please follow this link to our webpage . www . timechallenge . co . bw
I am really proud to say that we have managed to achieve another first in Botswana and hopefully Zambia . We have at last managed to get our ‘ As Built 5-star green certification ’ for Mashatu Terrace , the buildings that house Bank Gaborone and First Capital Bank in the CBD . Kagiso will expand on this achievement in her article in this newsletter .
The latest news that we have just received is that we have achieved the first ’ Net Zero ’ rating in Botswana for Mashatu Terrace , this means that as the buildings are highly energy efficient , and one hundred percent of the energy demand can be produced by the solar system under optimum conditions .
We have also made a submission for the first ’ Design 5-star rating ’ in Zambia where we are project managing the development of the new First Capital Bank head office in Lusaka . It is being evaluated in the first round and we hope to have an indication of how our submission has been evaluated in the next few weeks .
The next few months are going to see the opening of the Teemane Mall in Letlhakane which has turned out to be a lot bigger than what we had envisaged when we conceived the centre and the tenant demand has really been phenomenal . We will be starting the superstructure of Motswere , the fifth building in Prime Plaza and we should be breaking ground on the Barloworld heavy duty facility in Phakalane . We will be going to market with our latest housing development , Sesha Mews in Kgale , which will have free standing houses from 120m ² to 165m ².
It ’ s going to be a very exciting and busy second half of the year .
