ROOF READY
AND SEALED!
By Chabo Mbikiwa
We have been making good progress with the two new CBD buildings,
home to Bank Gaborone and Capital Bank, with 100% roofing and
90% glazing complete. Because of this, we decided it was time to
celebrate and put our roof to the test. Coincidently on the day of the event, our roof was tested by a real
downpour of rain and we certainly were excited that we didn’t have
any buckets of water in the building - an indication that the roof has
passed the test!
After sending out invites for the event, we had many questions about a
roof wetting party. We were asked if people should come dressed in
rain coats, carrying umbrellas, but the best question was whether people
ought to come dressed in clothing that resembles corrugated iron sheets!
But as we explained during the roof wetting function, traditionally a roof
wetting function or ritual involves wetting of the actual roof with litres of
water. This is done to check that the new roof is properly sealed off from
all external elements. With every intent of maintaining our ‘green building’ theme, the core
part of our décor on the day comprised of recycled material with the
most obvious being the use of pallets as furniture. We are still doing
everything possible to be the first Green Star rated, A-grade offices in
Botswana.
We would like to thank everyone who took time out to celebrate this
milestone with us.

The Design Quarter in Setlhoa situated close to Sebele Centre is well underway and
major milestones are being achieved. The most critical issues are steel work and
fabrication. Shops will be handed over to our tenants by the end of June 2018.
Our occupancy is currently at 42% and we are still finalising the last two large shops
with a number of established brands expressing interest.
