Historical places
The Gate of Bucharest is the first
contact with travelers when they
reach the former
capital of Wallachia coming from
Bucharest. The
first "Bastion" that
kept the enemies
outside the walls,
it stands from
middle ages as a
real witness of
Wallachia’s
(Romania's) history.
There are multiple monuments that
honor the memory of Romanian
heroes: The Heroes Monument from
the Dealu Monastery, the Monument
of Heroes of the Revolution near
The Metropolitan Church and the
Heroes’ Monument from Targoviste
in the city centre
Statues
The town of Targoviste has to offer many museums, such as: The
History Museum, The Art Museum, The Archeological Museum,
The Communism Museum, The Museum of the police and The
Museum of writers. Along with the beautiful architecture, the interesting expositions make the museums perfect places to visit.
There are many statues around the town, representatives being The
Statue of Michael the Brave in front of the Cultural House of the
Sindicates, the Statue of Mircea the Old in the city centre, in front
of the new building of the Prefecture, the Statue of Vlad the Impaler and the busts of the Romanian Rulers, both in the Chindia
Park.
Walking down the streets of you could observe the two parts of
Targoviste’s history trough the beautiful architecture, the monuments and the old houses– considered as national patrimony—and
the old communists buildings represented mostly by the block of
flats.
